The rapid advancement of science, medicine, and technology in the 19th and 20th centuries permitted increased lifespans and made life comfortable, causing the human population to rise exponentially.

In relative time, humans have advanced remarkably in the last two hundred years.

Nine human species walked the Earth 300,000 years ago. There is one left.
